Gas introduction
Ethylene, with the chemical formula C2H4 and molecular weight 28.054, is an organic compound consisting of two carbon atoms and four hydrogen atoms. The two carbon atoms are connected by a carbon-carbon double bond. Ethylene exists in some tissues and organs of plants, and is converted from methionine under the condition of sufficient oxygen supply.
Ethylene is the basic chemical raw material of synthetic fiber, synthetic rubber, synthetic plastic (polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride), synthetic ethanol (alcohol), also used in the manufacture of vinyl chloride, styrene, ethylene oxide, acetic acid, acetaldehyde and so on, can also be used as fruit and vegetables ripening agent, is a proven plant hormone.
Ethylene is one of the world's largest production of chemical products, ethylene industry is the core of the petrochemical industry, ethylene products account for more than 75% of petrochemical products, occupies an important position in the national economy. The world has taken ethylene production as one of the important indicators to measure the development level of a country's petrochemical industry.
The physiological effects are: triple reaction, promote fruit ripening, promote leaf senescence, induce adventitic roots and root hair generation, break the dormancy of plant seeds and buds, inhibit flowering of many plants (but can induce and promote flowering of pineapple and its family plants), can change the direction of flower sex differentiation in the early flower development of unisecious plants.
On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens published by the International Research Agency of the World Health Organization was preliminarily collated for reference, and ethylene was in the list of 3 types of carcinogens.
